Butterfly Gardening

Attracting butterflies to your garden is easy when you have the right combination of plants. Create a grouping with any of the following plants for your successful butterfly garden:

 

Buddleia - Butterfly Bush

Fast growing, large shrub with fragrant flowers in assorted colors of blue, pink, purple, and white.

 

Caryopteris - Blue Mist Shrub

Low growing, mounded shrub. Showy deep blue flowers in summer.

Echinacea - Coneflower

Medium growing, upright perennial; likes sun. Blooms of purple or white for 2-3 months beginning in early summer. 2-4' 

Lavandula - Lavender

Compact, mounding perennial with fragrant, purple flowers. 12-14" 

Hibiscus - Hardy Hibiscus

Beautiful, large blooms each summer of rose, red, pink, or white.

Monarda - Bee Balm

Large flowers with aromatic mint-like foliage. Grows well in full sun to part shade. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.

Rudbeckia - Black-eyed Susan

Long-blooming, low maintenance perennial with tall blossoms from mid-summer to fall. Likes full sun to partial shade and tolerates drought. 2' 

Syringa - Lilac

Medium growing vase-like shrub. Fragrant flowers in late spring; nice fall foliage.

Viburnum

Medium growing shrub with flowers in spring and berry clusters in fall. Very, very, fragrant.
